Stop SOPA
SOPA and PIPA are nefarious laws to censor and control the Internet.
Preventing piracy is nothing but a false pretense.
In germany, legislation passed a law that would have allowed government to censor individual websites in an effort to combat child pornography. On the outset a welcome initiative. The law was broadly written much like SOPA and PIPA, and several politicians had been outspoken to use the law against terrorism and piracy among other things and little would have stopped them.
This STOP Child Pornography law had actually passed despite the protest and against common sense to simply work with foreign officials to delete the child pornography content from their servers rather than preventing access to any flagged website by blocking/rerouting DNS to simply display a STOP sign. Easily circumvented and thus ineffectice, mind you. Just enter a different (foreign) DNS provider address in your network settings to bypass the censoring.
The german STOP Child Pornography law had ultimately and quietly been nullified by the government before it had become effective - a first for german legislation - because of the ongoing debate, criticism, petitions and other acts of civil protest.
You can do, no - you must do the same with SOPA and PIPA! SOPA and PIPA are even worse than the german STOP Child Pornography law because they threaten the free Internet and sharing of free information across the world, including websites like mine. With SOPA and PIPA the Internet you hold dear is in danger to be replaced by the Internet as the Chinese know it. Suppressed, censored and crippled. Don’t let that happen!
