I’m happy to announce that the cocos2d book I’m writing is now available for early access as an Alpha Book! If you click on the previous link or the image you can view the book’s description. Look for the “Buy Alpha Book” button on the left side of the book’s website, inside the “Book Details” frame.

Access to the Alpha Book costs $27,99 - the same as the eBook version. You get to read the unedited, unfinished pre-release chapters of the book. The full book isn’t available yet, but when it becomes available, you will be able to download the full eBook.

At the moment 5 chapters are available with new chapters being written on a weekly schedule.

Your feedback will be very valuable to make this book the best it can be! Please send your feedback to Apress, not to me directly. Apress will evaluate your feedback and send it to me with duplicate and already planned or implemented feedback sorted out, so that I can focus on writing.

I spend a lot of time coming up with ideas that will help you become a better app developer. I very much enjoy the learning process, the pushing of boundaries (mine and yours and that of technology), having the freedom to pursue whatever is on my mind, to boldly program what no one has programmed before, and to write about what I've learned. Help me help you by browsing the products in the Learn Cocos2D Store.

Should the alpha price be cheaper seeing as I’d (hopefully) be contributing to the final product?

    • GamingHorror says:

I don’t know what the rationale behind pricing Alpha Books is. I can imagine that it’s not cheaper because you get the privilege of early access. And if it were cheaper, some people might buy it just because it’s cheaper without ever intending to give feedback.

  2. Snake says:

so if I buy the alpha book now, I could also download the final full version on this book in DEC 2010?

Could I access the source code of the related chapters also?

    • GamingHorror says:

Yes, the final eBook version will be made available to Alpha Book customers.
I’m not sure if the source code is accessible in the alpha program, I’ll ask.

  3. Kim Le says:

What chapters are available in the alpha book? And will we have early access to the other book chapters as you wrap them up?

    • GamingHorror says:

Currently the first 5 chapters are available and as far as I understand it new chapters will be made available roughly on a weekly basis, after they make their first editorial pass. At the end you’ll get access to the final eBook version too.

27 bucks, no big deal, I’m glad I don’t have to wait until December. I especially liked the essentials chapter that explains the scene graph and key constructs. Really helped me. Looking foreward to other chapters.

Purchased, hopefully will help me to get up to speed with Cocos2d for iPhone.

  6. Rob says:

Downloaded book and synced to iPad. Shame all the chapters are labeled Chapter 1.

Now just to find some more hours in the day to read it!

    • GamingHorror says:

Oh yeah, the chapter numbers. I haven’t found a way to edit them in the Word document. I got to ask again how this number can be changed, it’s not an editable field and not a header/footer either.

  8. Stoked on the book. Is the ebook available in .mobi or another kindle friendly format?
