I have an extensive library of books covering all fields of expertise, from Programming to Game Design and all other no less important areas of game development: User Interface, Usability, Production, Leadership, Testing, Marketing, Business and Legal. All bought over the last 20 years. During my professional game industry career, i made all these books available to my colleagues. I had my own personal book library at work and it was frequently used. I wish i could share it on the Internet, too … but that just doesn’t work quite so well.
Amazon Affiliate Program
Then i had an idea: what if i try out the Amazon Affiliate Program and add my book recommendations to it - i would be able to recommend the books that i hold dear and possibly cover some costs with your help! So here’s to the grand opening of the Amazon Store on this Website! I hand-picked the game development books which you can find in the appropriately labeled default category. For each sale made through this store (no matter what you buy!) i get a small commission. For you the prices are the same, just as if you were buying via Amazon.com. The commission can be up to 15% but i believe that’s their hook - in most cases it will be more like 4% of the purchase price. Right now i see this as a test: can i cover the costs for this website by adding an Amazon Store? If this sees some success i will go through the effort to add additional localized stores, in order for non-US customers to be able to buy from their local Amazon store.
You would do me a great favor by buying through the Amazon Store - no matter what! Well, preferably something pricy of course! The price that you pay is the same and your sale is always made with Amazon directly, i will never be able to know what you bought if you’re concerned about that. I’m also not asking you to buy from Amazon if you don’t want to. But if you are already an avid Amazon.com customer like i am, you could do me a great favor to buy through my store and help me support the cocos2d community with FAQs and Tutorials!
Website Expenses
For reference i compiled a list of the current Website expenses:
- $19 (monthly) for ScreenSteps Live - the software used to create and host the Tutorials and FAQs
- $10 (monthly) for YourMailingListProvider - the Newsletter service i use
- $4 (monthly, pro rata) for webhosting
- $20 (yearly) for the .com domain
- $77 (once) for the Website Theme iBlogPro from PageLines
- $37 (once) for the PrettyLinkPro plugin
- … and my time (priceless).
I’d be happy if the Amazon Store would eventually cover the running costs of about $35 per month! Or one $100 check from Amazon every three months. That would be legen … wait for it … dary!
